I signed a contract to buy a travel trailer and hold it until we returned from a 6 week trip. We were somewhat under pressure to make a decision right away even though I had expressed that I did not like that trailer. We were told if you don’t buy today, we may not have it tomorrow and we will have to charge you more for a newer model. After several weeks, I decided that I didn’t want the trailer at all even if I had to lose the $1000 deposit. I offered to settle for half the deposit and the dealer initially said no and then called back and said that he would take the deal and credit my account the next day. It has been two weeks and it has not happened yet.I have called Visa and in the process of filling out a dispute form.
Call the people with the trailer and remind them. They are entitled to something because they took the trailer off the market and held it for you when they might have been able to sell it to someone else. They held it for six weeks, which is what they agreed to do. If they choose to refund part, then they are being nice. You do not have grounds for a dispute because you have no legal right to demand the refund of earnest money. That’s what earnest money is. It’s a penalty for cancelling.
