Financial Planning Tips : Good Credit Cards for Teenagers

Good credit card offers for first time user?

Well I want to start building credit already as I’m almost 19 and would soon like to start making purchases that require good credit (car, house, etc). Yes parents can help for now, but I want to be ready to be able to hold my own also.

Saying that, what seems to be a good bank to start a credit line? Any credit cards that offer interest free for a while? I also take into account any bonuses they offer (“points” to purchase things and etc).

Also what’s a safe way to build credit without going overboard and not being able to keep up with payments? Do I buy everyday items with it, and buy big purchases with a debit, or the other way around or what?

Any tips are welcome!
Thanks :]

If you are a student, getting a student card should be easy. My first one was Discover. Many other big banks also offer them.

Don’t take interest rates into account. If you cannot pay the balance every month, DON’T get the card.

Many student cards offer points/loyalty programs, but most of them are not worth much.

The fastest way to build credit is to meet two conditions: 1) pay on time every month, and 2) stay under 25% of your credit limit. So it is usually best to use the credit card for small things, and if any purchase exceeps 25% of the credit limit, use the debit card.
